APA|NY Image Make Lecture Series
Wednesday February 18th, 2009, 6:00-8:30 PM
APA|NY presents the next installment of the
Apple Image Maker lecture series
APA|NY’s popular lecture series continues with a presentation by award-winning fine art and commercial photographer Lisa Kereszi.
Join us for an inspiring talk and show of images by Lisa Kereszi, Acting Director of Undergraduate Photography Studies at Yale University School of Art. An award-winning photographer herself, Kereszi is represented by Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York, where she has had two solo shows. Two other solo shows were held at Pierogi in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and her work has been exhibited in group shows at the Whitney Museum, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, BAM, The Bronx Museum of Art and various other museums and galleries nationwide. Lisa Kereszi was born in 1973 in Pennsylvania, graduated from Bard College and holds an MFA from Yale. Early in her career, she worked as an assistant to Nan Goldin. Since 2000, she has taught at a variety of universities as a visiting artist/critic, among them ICP, SVA, NYU, Parsons, Vassar and UNC Chapel Hill. Much of her work can be seen on her website: http://www.lisakereszi.com.
At this second in 2009 of APA|NY’s Image Maker Lecture Series, Kereszi will show and discuss her work from the last 8 years, which consists mostly of details in interior spaces devoid of their usual inhabitants – those enjoyment seekers of one sort or another: strip club clientele, carnival goers, drinkers and escapists in general. The work is her close look at the way these experiences are molded by the containers shrewdly built for them. She will include work from Times Square, Coney Island and Governors Island, as well as new work that shows a move outside into the greens and browns of her current world, rather than just the blacks and neon reds and nighttime blues. She will also show forays into editorial work, and discuss balancing the two.
