The Day That Changed the World: A 25th Anniversary PROJECTIONS Event

PROJECTIONS will present a six-night global broadcast commemorating the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, bringing together many of the photographers, editors, and visual journalists whose images defined the world's understanding of the attacks and their aftermath.
Before history was written, it was photographed. Twenty-five years later, the photographers who bore witness return to tell the stories behind the images that changed the world.
Broadcast live worldwide via Zoom from September 6–11, 2026, the series follows the chronology of September 11 and its immediate aftermath, culminating on the anniversary itself.
Photographers who documented the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and communities across America will share firsthand accounts of covering one of the defining events of the modern era. White House presidential photographers will offer rare perspectives from inside the presidency during one of the most consequential days in American history.
Current and former photographers, editors, and representatives from organizations including the Associated Press, TIME, The Washington Post, Getty Images, and others will discuss how the visual record of 9/11 was created, edited, and shared with the world.
Confirmed presenters include: Joel Meyerowitz, David Hume Kennerly, Steve McCurry, David Friend, MaryAnne Golon, Ruth Fremson, Jennifer S. Altman, Thomas Dallal, David Handschuh, Jim Lowney, Ron Haviv, Mark Edward Harris, Stan Honda, Mario Tama, Jose Jimenez-Tirado, Pete Souza, Rabbi Irwin Kula, Jeff Swensen, Robert Clark, Matthew McDermott, Gary Suson, Todd Maisel, Gulnara Samoilova, Lori Grinker, Thomas Franklin, Jason Florio, Lyle Owerko, Eric Draper, Spencer Platt, Shannon Stapleton, Phil Penman, and Lauren Walsh — and more than 30 photographers, editors, and visual journalists in total. Additional participants will be announced as confirmations continue.
Each program will be broadcast live to a worldwide audience, recorded, and permanently archived on the PROJECTIONS website and YouTube channel, creating an enduring educational resource for future generations.
