A Photo Walk Through Tribeca

Sun 08th Dec, 2024 – 10:30am–12:30pm

Posted by APA New York

If you have ever wanted to learn how to create photos like the pros, this fun, free event for kids and parents will be a great way to spend part of your Sunday!

Join top pro Robert Ripps for a fun and informative photo walk around Tribeca. This photo walk will teach you how to make better photos regardless if you have a camera or a smartphone. You'll learn a bit about photography fundamentals like composition, utilizing light and shadow, and how to think creatively as we photograph people, places, and things around Tribeca. And Robert is a Tribeca native, so he know all the best spots. Best of all, you’ll have a fun-filled afternoon learning and making photos — just in time to capture fabulous photos of your holiday gatherings!

This activity is for photographers of all ages - including kids. Feel free to bring your children along with you for a fun photography event you can do together. Space is limited. Please RSVP.

This event is part of APA-NY’s 2nd Annual Soho Week, juried photography exhibit at Soho Photo Gallery (happening December 3-8), so we’ll be starting out our walk from the gallery.

About Robert Ripps:

Born and raised in NYC, Robert A. Ripps finds the unexpected in the commonplace, creating humanistic images that capture a personal moment in time. A theme that runs throughout his work is an examination of how human civilization and nature interact.

His latest personal project, Negativityness, is a response to the political climate right now- everything seems to be about negativity, about division, about what is truth (and what is inarguably false, yet touted as truth). It is about how the surface of things can be 180 degrees opposite from what is underneath, it is about falsehoods and unseen influence. It is about discordance, about disorientation, about a world turned upside down and inside out.

He has exhibited his work nationally, and his most recent solo show, Negativityness Abounds, ran at the Christine Frechard Gallery in Pittsburgh, PA in the summer of 2021. In 2020, his work was included in the exhibit #ICPConcerned, a selection of photographs collected from the ICP Concerned hashtag on Instagram, and on display at ICP in New York.
