Fools Rush In
THURSDAY, APRIL 1 – FOOLS RUSH IN
WIN-INITIATIVE AND APA|NY ANNOUNCE ALL DAY PHOTO SEMINAR. ‘FOOLS RUSH IN’ TO FEATURE PORTFOLIO REVIEWS, PANEL PRESENTATION MODERATED BY KAREN DSILVA AND GUEST SPEAKER NAOMI HARRIS.
Wise men say only fools rush in, but WIN-Initiative and the New York chapter of the Advertising Photographers of America (APA|NY) say you’d be a fool to miss their upcoming, all-day photography seminar ‘Fools Rush In’ set for Thursday, April 1st.
Though set for April Fools’ Day, the all-day event is certainly no joke. Portfolio reviews, a panel discussion, a marketplace, a guest lecturer and special announcements will all take place. Food, beverages and music will ensure that the day transitions into a night party. Held at the Bathhouse Studios in the East Village, the event kicks off with a portfolio review, where attendees can have one-on-one reviews of their work by esteemed members of the photography community. Each attendee will have three 15-minute sessions with the likes of Pulitzer Prize-winning Photo Editor Stella Kramer, Alison Zavos (Publisher/Managing Editor of photo blog Feature Shoot) and Dripbook.com co-founder and Creative Director Alex Wright, among other notable names (below).
A moderated panel dubbed ‘The Bright Future’ will follow the portfolio reviews. Focusing on the state of photography and its imminent changes, the panel will include some of the notable reviewers as well as other prominent leaders in the field.
‘Fools Rush In’ will also feature a marketplace, allowing for key sponsors to interact with participants and demonstrate how their products can better serve them. The list of sponsors include SONY, Bron Imaging Group, Arc, Adorama, Agency Access, Blinkbid and Duggal, who will be showcasing recent work from local WIN and Contaminate NYC talent. (The exhibition, which will be taking place throughout the day, is open to anyone who registers for the event.) SONY will be on hand to award the WIN’s 10 Best 10 regional winner with the a550 DSLR. The night’s biggest draw will be a guest lecture by Naomi Harris, who will kick off the fourth installation of WIN’s Take 5ive event.
Food, beer and wine will be available during the seminar, and musical performances by bands: Live Footage, The Bill Murray Experience and jazz singer Silvia Cecchetti will keep the party going.
Ticket prices are available in two brackets. All day attendees pay $60 (or $50 for WIN Talent and APA members), which includes the portfolio reviews, panel discussions, creative marketplace, the exhibition and a VIP Pass. VIP Pass holders have access to the VIP lounge where they can mingle with portfolio reviewers and speakers.
Non-review attendees pay $20 ($15 for members, pre-registration only) and can join in at 3:00 p.m. to enjoy the panel discussion, lecture, live performances and Take 5ive party events.
With so much to see, hear and take part of, consider it foolish to skip out on the Spring’s biggest photography event.
